What each home size actually costs at four distance bands, and why the per-kilometre rate falls as the distance grows.

Volume first, distance second
Home size is a proxy for volume, and volume is what actually drives the price. A sparsely furnished 3 BHK can be cheaper to move than a densely packed 2 BHK.
Treat the bands below as a starting point, then price your real inventory.
Typical packed volumes we see: 1 RK around 175 CFT, 1 BHK around 350, 2 BHK around 650, 3 BHK around 1,100, 4 BHK around 1,500.
Why the per-kilometre rate falls
A 1,500 km move does not cost five times a 300 km move. Loading and unloading labour is identical regardless of distance, and the fixed costs of a trip — permits, tolls, driver allowance — are spread further.
Long-haul kilometres are also cheaper to drive: fewer stops, more highway.
So a quote that simply multiplies a per-kilometre rate by the distance is either overcharging you on long routes or losing money on short ones.
What changes these numbers most
- Floors without a lift, at either end. This is the largest single swing on a local move.
- Distance from where the truck can park to your door.
- Dedicated vehicle versus shared load on an intercity move — often a 25% difference.
- Packing tier, which mostly shows up on fragile-heavy households.
- Month-end dates, which cost more everywhere in India.
- Special items: pianos, safes, large glass, gym equipment, aquariums.
Reading a quote against these bands
If a quote is far below the band, ask what is missing — usually access charges, packing material or GST. If it is far above, ask which component is carrying the difference.
The answer to either question should take a professional operator about ten seconds.
